Why don’t you…

Remember the column Diana Vreeland used to write for Harper’s Bazaar? It was named “Why don’t you?” and there Diana Vreeland made the most extravagant suggestions to its readers, like “Why don’t you own three pink diamonds?” or “Why don’t you put in a private staircase from your bedroom to the library, and have it carpeted with a needlepoint rug that spells out the notes to your favorite tune?”. She made us think that fashion is not a boring and plain thing you have to learn and follow. It can be fun, absurd and marvellous.

That’s why I made this article, I wrote my own “Why don’t you” list so you can read it and maybe take some ideas from it. Don’t take it too seriously! (I haven’t).

Why don’t you…

- Organize a masked ball? If you don’t have the money then ask your friends to contribute… Suggestion: Marie Antoinette’s soundtrack in the party playlist.

- Buy yourself a pair of heartshaped sunglasses? It’s always a good time to show your girly side.

- Paint your fingernails blue?

- Try to speak French with your friends for a whole day? (The best thing: you can invent your own words by adding a french accent)

- Build a house on a tree?

- Buy flowers for yourself? They look great at home, really.

- Write a poem with a non permanent felt-tip pen on the bathroom tiles? It’s great waking up in the morning and reading some Shakespeare while you are brushing your teeth. Don’t try to recite the verses, though, or the looking glass will be covered with toothpaste.

- Write a letter to an old friend?

- Sew a skirt with those curtains that nobody likes? It could look like Prada or Luella if you want. – Watch classic Disney movies with your friends on a rainy day?

- Dress with a different theme everyday during a week? Monday: Indian, Tuesday: Rockstar, Wednesday: Hippy

- Take a day off and go art-gallery hunting?

- Put on the most strange outfits you have, take photographs of you wearing them and print the images in tiny sizes, then put them together as a sequence?

- Send anonymous positive postcards to your neighbours? Imagine how happy they will feel when they receive a postcard that says: “You are the sunshine of many people’s lives”?

- Mail your deepest secret to Post Secret?

- Participate in a contest?

- Join a theatre group?

- Spend your Christmas money for presents on donations to charity?

- Crash a party with your friends?

- Learn Japanese?

- Redecorate your bedroom?

- Organize a roadtrip in a convertible car with your friends?

- Go to a petshop, buy three birds and set them free?

- Organize a pool party?

¿Os acordáis de la columna que escribía Diana Vreeland para Harper’s Bazaar? Se llamaba “Why don’t you?” (¿Por qué no?) y en ella Diana daba los más extraños consejos a sus lectores. Desde: “¿Por qué no te compras tres diamantes rosas?” o “¿Por qué no instalas una escalera privada desde tu cuarto a la biblioteca y le pones una alfombra que cante tu melodía favorita mientras subes los escalones?” Nos hizo darnos cuenta de que la moda no es una cosa aburrida que haya que aprender y seguir. Puede ser divertida, absurda, pero maravilosa!

Por eso he escrito esta lista con mis propios “¿Por qué no?”, para que lo leáis y quizás cojáis alguna idea.

¿Por qué no…

- Organizas una fiesta de máscaras? Si no tienes dinero, pídeles a tus amigos que te ayuden. Sugerencia: incluir la banda sonora de Marie Antoinette entre la música que vayas a poner.
- Te compras unas gafas en forma de corazón?
- Te pintas las uñas de azul?
- Intentas hablar francés con tus amigos durante un día entero? (Lo mejor: te puedes inventar palabras añadiendo acento francés)
- Construyes una casa en un árbol?
- Compras unas flores? Quedan muy bien para decorar la casa.
- Escribes poemas con un rotulador no permanente en los azulejos del baño? Es genial despertarse y leer unos versos de Shakespeare mientras te lavas los dientes. Eso sí, no intentes recitarlos porque se llenará todo de pasta de dientes.
- Escribes una carta a un viejo amigo?
- Te haces una falda con la tela de esas cortinas que no le gustan a nadie? Podría ser Prada o Luella si quieres.
- Ves clásicos de Disney con tus amigas un día lluvioso?
- Te vistes en un estilo distinto cada día de la semana durante una semana? Lunes: India, Martes: Estrella de Rock, Miércoles: Hippy.

- Te tomas un día libre para recorrerte galerías de arte?
- Te pones los conjuntos más extravagantes que tengas, te fotografías con ellos, imprimes las imágenes en tamaños pequeños y las enmarcas como una secuencia?

- Envías postales positivas anónimamente a tus vecinos? Imagínate qué bien se sentirán cuando reciban una postal que ponga “You are the sunshine of many people’s lives”?
- Envías tu secreto más profundo a Post Secret?
- Participas en un concurso?
- Te apuntas a un grupo de teatro?
- Te gastas el dinero de los regalos de Navidad en donaciones para la caridad?
- Te cuelas en una fiesta con tus amigos?
- Aprendes Japonés?
- Redecoras tu habitación?
- Organizas un viaje en descapotable con tus amigos?
- Compras varios pájaros en una tienda de animales y los dejas volar libres para siempre?
- Organizas una fiesta en la piscina?

Me ha encantado tu lista de why don´t you…yo lo de las flores tambien lo hago a menudo..me compro un ramo y lo reparto en jarrones de cristal por el salón, la habitación…me encanta.la verdad es que hay cosas que dices que sí estaría bien hacerlas…lo de las postales a los vecino…aunq odie a los mmiosjaajajaj, lo de los pájaros, las fiestas…intentaré ponerlas en práctica!!!!!!! y otras mas q se me ocurran, pero lo más importante es hacer aquello que surge inesperadamente…si planearlo.besos
