Watching a livestreamed show should always be like Prada’s. It’s like watching a film, they use several cameras that travel around the runway and you get to see the show from different angles and have a look at the details. I saw the Prada F/W 2013/2014 Hommes yesterday, and the runway decoration was great (check some of the best runways from last season). The collection is amazing too. It was set at Prada’s space in Milan, and it imitated a sort of ideal home. An editor that was tweeting from the show said that it was like being inside a Sims house, and he was right, the furniture looked like digitally animated graphics. In fact, there were some fake windows with animated city landscapes and giant cats that appeared out of nowhere.

There were desks, coffee tables, computers, sofas, guitars, typewriters… Made in wood and pink and blue foam. Everything was designed by OMA, the architecture label co-founded by Miuccia’s friend Rem Koolhaas. This collection is made of 12 furniture pieces and will be sold in Knoll, a famous furniture house whose creations are exhibited at the MoMA in New York.

The runway, that very important part of the show that we sometimes miss because we are looking at the clothes. But some venues are astounding and deserve to be admired. They make a fantastic world in which we can dream for 30 minutes.

I made a compilation of the Spring/Summer 2013 most amazing runway venues (check here the previous season’s post). Burberry is always great, Louis Vuitton always managed to surprise us again (escalators, a yellow checkmate board, and squares all over the place make an oneiric picture), Chanel was spectacular with the wind turbines (only Chanel can make environmentalism interesting), and Kenzo created a totally new effect with a cubic screen. I wish I could have attended Givenchy‘s show, where a man played a church organ. Truth is many of this season’s runway venues were fantastic.
